Jim was out at the bookstore when the doctor called and he made it across the street to the coffee shop to sit before he called Marcus.

Answer.

Answer.

Answer.

Finally, Marcus' voice came over the line. "Baby?"

"It's not cancer." He took a deep breath, sucking in the air.

Marcus' laughter came through the line. "Oh, baby. That's the best news in the world."

He nodded, tearing up. "It's not cancer."

"Say it again, baby."

"It's not cancer. It's a benign cyst. It'll go away. Everything looks great."

Marcus laughed again. "It's not cancer. Get your ass to the Hammer, baby."

"I'll be there in twenty. I was at the bookstore." He took a deep breath, stood and started walking. "You already there?"

"I am. We're suppering with Billy, Simon and their boys."

"Oh. Okay. That sounds great." He sped his steps, laughing a little. Not cancer. Not cancer. Not cancer.

"I don't want to hang up. I just want to listen to you saying it's not cancer over and over," Marcus told him.

"I know!" His heart was racing, joy filling him. "Oh, Master. It's not cancer. No chemo. No surgery. Just a glorious week."

"Come quickly, I need to kiss you."

"I am. If I see a taxi, I'll grab it, I promise."

"Okay." Marcus made a kissing noise. "Love you, baby."

"I love you. You need to go?" Please say no. He started jogging.

"I can give you a couple more minutes."

"Okay. I'm hurrying, I promise." He didn't have cancer. He could run.

"Here's Billy and Tanny. I should go, baby. Don't be long."

"Okay. Okay, I love you. I'll see you, soon."

"See you soon, my cancer-free baby."

"Soon." He closed his phone and started running.

Master.

Master.

It wasn't cancer.
